A MESSAGE FROM THE ADMINISTRATION
Students, families, friends, and visitors:
Welcome to the Mascoutah High School Website. We consider it an honor and privilege to serve as the administration of Mascoutah High School. At MHS we truly are “One Team, One Tribe, and One Family.” The commitment of our faculty and staff to provide challenging and engaging learning opportunities for our students inspires us and, more importantly, prepares our young people for the challenges they face beyond high school. MHS students are second to none and consistently excel in and out of the classroom.
As the administration, we are impressed with the dedication of the faculty and staff, the rigor of our curriculum, and the support of our parents and community. More importantly, we are impressed with the wonderful student body at MHS. It truly is a great place to be!

MASCOUTAH HIGH SCHOOL, PRINCIPAL
Mrs. Amy Kelly Johnson, Principal
Mrs. Amy Kelly Johnson is proud to have graduated with the Mascoutah High School Class of 1992! She went on to earn her Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a minor in mathematics and a concentration in Teacher Education from Governors State University, as well as her special education endorsement. Mrs. Johnson acquired her Master of Arts in Educational Leadership in 2008 and her EdS, Specialist in Education and Superintendent Licensure, in 2022, from McKendree University. She is an active member of the Illinois Principals Association as well.
Mrs. Johnson began her career teaching 8th grade mathematics for the Collinsville School District. She joined the Triad School District in 2001, where she taught English, mathematics, and social studies. Throughout her career, her family has been relocated on two occasions, affording her the opportunity to teach high school English at West High School in Manchester, New Hampshire, and St. Charles East High School in St. Charles, Illinois, as well. Mrs. Johnson also values her tenure as the competitive dance team coach at Collinsville, Triad, and St. Charles North High Schools. She served several years in the Assistant Principal role, including three of those years at Mascoutah High School. She returns to MHS on the heels of her role as the Director of Curriculum and Instruction for the Bethalto School District.
Mrs. Johnson has three children who have graduated from high school, each of whom is creating a unique path in life. Her oldest son is serving in the Air Force; her middle son is a Biomedical Engineer; and her daughter is seeking her nursing degree. She spends most of her free time traveling and supporting their efforts, as well as enjoying time with her husband, friends, and family.
Mrs. Johnson is thrilled to come full circle and be a part of the Mascoutah School District and community once again! She is driven to provide the absolute best academic and social opportunities for our students at MHS, allowing them to create a high school experience that prepares each of them for whatever goals they may have in life!
MASCOUTAH HIGH SCHOOL, ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL
Mrs. Julie Hazzard, Assistant Principal
Mrs. Julie Hazzard earned her B.A. in Speech Communications in 2006 from Webster University where she also played on the women's basketball team. She then worked for a 501c3 nonprofit organization for 10 years serving in various roles from Director of Education to Director of Community Outreach. It is during this time that Mrs. Hazzard earned her M.A. in Education from McKendree University in 2014.
Mrs. Hazzard was a middle school Health teacher in the East St. Louis school district for 2 years before transitioning to teach high school Health and Driver Education at Collinsville High School for 5 years. It was during this time that she completed her Administrative internship and certification through McKendree University, as well. Mrs. Hazzard is passionate about building relationships with students and families—and is excited to be a part of the Mascoutah High School team!
Mrs. Hazzard resides in Shiloh with her husband and dogs. Her daughter is a college volleyball player and is pursuing her BSN in Nursing. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, camping, travelling, and reading in her spare time!
MASCOUTAH HIGH SCHOOL, ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL
Mr. Morio Montgomery graduated from Lakewood High School in Smokey Point, Washington, in 2003. However, as a native of the metro east, Mr. Montgomery attended Belleville East High School before relocating to Washington State due to his parents’ military service.
After serving 5 years in the United States Navy, Mr. Montgomery earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, as well as a Masters of Education from the University of Washington. In addition, he earned a Masters of Education Administration from Mckendree University.
Mr. Montgomery began his teaching career in 2017 with the Auburn School District in Auburn, Washington. During his tenure with Auburn, Mr. Montgomery taught social studies and served as the department chair. He also taught the AVID elective and was the head football and basketball coach at Rainier Middle School. He joined the Mascoutah School District in 2021, serving as an English Language Learner instructor and MHS assistant football coach for 2 years.
Mr. Montgomery and his wife Jessica have two children, Maria and Camilla, who attend school in the Mascoutah School District. He enjoys spending time with family and friends and coaching his children's’ athletic teams.
Mr. Montgomery is a passionate educator that loves supporting staff and students in their pursuit of academic and social learning. He is ecstatic about joining a great administration team and continuing to serve the outstanding Mascoutah High School community.
MASCOUTAH HIGH SCHOOL, ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL
Mr. Nick Seibert, Assistant Principal
Mr. Seibert is a 1999 graduate of Edwardsville High School in Edwardsville, IL. He received his Bachelor of Science in Education from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, and his Master of Arts in Education Administration from McKendree University.
Mr. Seibert began his teaching career at O'Fallon District 90 in 2004 and continued his teaching career at O'Fallon Township High School between the years of 2005-2022. He held the roles of teacher, department chair, and assistant athletic director during his time at O'Fallon. He was also involved in coaching many sports during his teaching tenure including baseball, softball, and basketball. Mr. Seibert became Assistant Principal in 2022 at Mascoutah High School.
Mr. Seibert has been a member of the Mascoutah community since 2004. He is married and has two daughters. He stays active outside of school volunteering for many civic organizations and coaching youth sports in Mascoutah. He loves the outdoors and watching the St. Louis Cardinals and Blues.
Mr.Seibert is very passionate and involved with many aspects of the City of Mascoutah. He is excited to be a member of the great group of educators and leaders in the Mascoutah School District.
MASCOUTAH HIGH SCHOOL, DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS
Mr. Scott Battas, Director of Athletics
Mr. Battas is a graduate of Mascoutah High School (1997). He received his Bachelor of Science in Education from Northern Illinois University and his Master of Science in Educational Administration from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. He is a member of the Illinois Athletic Directors Association (IDA) and the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA). Mr. Battas also has earned the designation of Registered Athletic Administrator (RAA) through the NIAAA certification process.
Mr. Battas began his teaching and coaching career in DeKalb, Illinois at Clinton Rosette Middle School where he taught Special Education while coaching Varsity Football and Freshman Baseball. From there he moved on to Edwardsville High School where he taught Special Education and coached Varsity Football for 3 years. After that stint, he moved back to Mascoutah and began teaching Special Education and coaching Varsity Football. Mr. Battas was the Varsity Football Head Coach from 2009-2015. He began his tenure as Director of Athletics in 2014 and remains in that post today.
Mr. Battas resides in Mascoutah and has a daughter (Brynn) and a son (Beau). He stays very active outside of school and loves to stay involved in the community. Along with spending time amongst his family and friends, Mr. Battas enjoys running and cross training, sports, and loves St. Louis Cardinal Baseball.
Mr. Battas is passionate about his profession and looks forward to being a part of the Mascoutah High School community for years to come. He is very proud to call himself a Mascoutah Indian!
